If you were born in June, you're fortunate because you have more than one birthstone to choose from! The month of June boasts three birthstones: pearl, Alexandrite, and moonstone.
Moonstone is a unique stone that shimmers with a milky or bluish iridescence known as adularescence. Considered a sacred stone in India, moonstones are believed to bring good fortune. Part of the family of minerals called feldspar, the most prized moonstones are from Sri Lanka. It got its name from the Roman natural historian, Pliny, who believed the moonstone's appearance changed with the phases of the moon!

Pearls have mesmerized people for ages: Persian mythology named them “the tears of the gods," an ancient Chinese legend claims the moon has the power to create pearls, and pearls were once the favorite gems of the great Roman Empire.
But what's even more incredible about pearls is it's the only gem to come from a living sea creature!
Natural pearls are rare and difficult to find in the ocean’s depths, so cultured pearls were created. Cultured pearls are created from mollusks that have had irritants placed carefully inside of them similar to those produced by nature. Cultured pearls have almost completely replaced natural pearls in the market since the 1920s!
Pearls remain a favorite gem to this day and will continue to be an enduring classic. They can be dressed up or down and come in array of colors including black, gray, and silver.

Alexandrite is truly a phenomenal gem. Due to its unique chemical composition, this chamelon-like chrysoberyl changes color in different light, from a bluish-green in daylight and fluorescent light to a purplish red in incandescent light. It seems like magic, but it is the magic of science! It's thought to strengthen intuition, help boost creativity, and inspire the imagination.
Alexandrite was first discovered in Russia in the Ural mountains during the reign of Czar Alexander II, (Yes, they were named after him!) and quickly became a coveted jewel. Due to its rarity, most Alexandrite stones today are synthetic versions of this gorgeous gemstone.
