Alright guys, you know my mission is to help you "Get the Yes!" But...before you can get the yes, you have to have the perfect ring. And in order to get the perfect ring, you need to know her ring size. Plus, if you want to add in the element of surprise and pop the question when she isn't expecting it, this is where it "could" get tricky.
Don't worry! I have some sneaky ways to help you figure out her ring size. Honestly, you'll think some of these are straight out of James Bond! 😉
The Bar of Soap Test
You'll need a bar of soap for this one. At the end of the day after she has taken off a ring she wears regularly, grab it (when she isn't looking obviously!) and press it into a bar of soap to create an impression. Don't forget to rinse it off and put it back where you found it! Then, all you have to do is match the inside of the band to a ring sizing chart (Print out this PDF!) to get a starting point. Also, pay attention to which finger the ring was on! Even if it's not her "ring" finger, it'll be a good place to start.
The Sneak Test
You've got to get your "stealth" on with this one. Sneak into her jewelry box and find a ring she doesn't wear often, and take it to your local jeweler to get it sized. DON'T FORGET TO PUT IT BACK!
The Fun Fact Test
If you don't trust yourself to pull off the sneak test, then try this one.Tell her that you just learned a "fun fact" and you want to try it out: Take your shoe size and divide it by two and add three, and it will sum up to your ring finger size. Have her do it and see if it is correct for her. Hopefully this will lead to conversation about her real ring size.
Pretend You're Shopping For Someone Else
This one can be a lot of fun because it involves taking your significant other on a shopping trip to a jewelry store and pretending that you’re buying a ring for a sister, mother, or whomever, really, as a birthday gift. You can ask her to try on some rings to help you decide what you like and what looks good. Then you can gauge her ring size that way. What's even better is to call the jewelry store ahead of time and have them help you determine her ring size as she's trying them on for you.
Trace ItWhen she's not around, get a ring of hers, place it on a piece of paper, and draw a circle on the inside and outside of the ring. Repeat this a couple of times for consistency's sake. You can then take this to the jewelry store and have your jeweler figure out her ring size from the sketch!
