Picking a trusted confidante (who hopefully has some photography skills, too!) is a wonderful way to get all the pics you want of your proposal, without the added burden of paying a professional. You'll need to cover things like where they're going to hide or will they be tagging along with you and be a part of the "surprise" proposal, camera equipment (smart phone or professional camera), flash/lighting, etc.

This could be tricky and potentially backfire, but you could ask a random person to take a picture of the two of you and then get down on your knee and surprise everyone. (including your picture-taker!) The drawbacks are many with this one, but it could work!
